What I’m Learning This Month
One of my goals this year is to become a lifelong student again.
Not because I need another certification, degree, or accomplishment to add to a list, but because learning makes me feel alive.
For so long, I viewed learning as something connected to school, deadlines, and responsibilities. Recently, I have started rediscovering the joy of learning simply because something interests me.
Here are a few things I am exploring this month.
Learning About Moon Phases
As I begin exploring my spiritual side, I have become fascinated by the moon and its cycles.
There is something comforting about the reminder that life naturally moves through phases. Growth, rest, reflection, action, release – none of these seasons are permanent.
The moon serves as a reminder that progress does not have to be linear.
Some days are for planting seeds.
Some days are for blooming.
Some days are simply for resting.
Learning About Gothic Literature
As someone drawn to dark academia, Gothic literature feels like the perfect place to begin.
I am learning that Gothic stories are about much more than haunted houses and mysterious characters. They explore identity, isolation, morality, love, fear, and what it means to be human.
Reading classic works like Jane Eyre has helped me appreciate how timeless these themes really are.
Learning How to Slow Down
This might sound simple, but it has been one of the most difficult lessons.
Our culture often celebrates constant productivity. We are encouraged to optimize every moment and fill every empty space.
I am learning that slowing down is not laziness.
Sometimes slowing down allows us to notice what truly matters.
A quiet morning.
A conversation.
A good book.
A cup of coffee enjoyed without distraction.
Learning to Trust Myself
For a long time, I looked outside myself for answers.
I wanted reassurance that I was making the right choices, pursuing the right goals, and becoming the right person.
This month, I am learning that self-trust is built through action.
Every time I keep a promise to myself, I strengthen that trust.
Every time I choose authenticity over approval, I strengthen that trust.
Every time I show up for the life I want to build, I strengthen that trust.
Learning That Becoming Takes Time
Perhaps the biggest lesson of all is this:
Transformation is rarely dramatic.
Most of the time it happens quietly.
One page read.
One walk taken.
One journal entry written.
One habit practiced.
One choice made differently than before.
Looking back, those small moments become the story of who we became.
As June continues, I am excited to keep learning – not because I have all the answers, but because I finally enjoy asking the questions.
This post is part of my 365-day Becoming Journey, where I am intentionally creating a life centered on learning, beauty, curiosity, and authenticity.
